which grid format loads fastest?
Hi for the same grid size and spacing, should i expect some formats to load fasted than others and if so which. I have a ASCII grid that seems to slow for its size, so is there another format.......or is it something to do with the decimals in the whitespace which exported as 1.70141e38 even though the real data points were exported to 2 decimals?

Oh answering my own question here - Global Mapper Grid format with lossless unticked but same spacing converted a Surfer grid of 2GB into 18 MB

Hi Ben,
You have answered correctly. The Global Mapper Grid (GMG) format is pretty much the fastest and best compressed format for grid data. It also has built-in pyramid layers so it will draw very fast at all zoom levels.
Thanks,
Mike
