How do I generate a line roughly in the middle of a long area feature?

I have generated an area feature along a road using the vectorize raster tool. Does anyone know of a way to generate a line generally in the center of this area?

You can select the area feature(s) with the Digitizer Tool, then use the Advanced Feature Creation -> Create Area Skeletons option to create lines through the center of the polygon.
