Is there a way to associate a grid with another feature layer/type?

I'm working on a project to annotate invertebrates present on the seafloor. Each time I see an invertebrate, I mark it with the point feature button. It would be helpful for our data to match each invertebrate to each square within the grid I created (ex. sponge 23 is in square AA04). How could I do this without manually inputting the name of the square as an attribute each time?

Did you create the grid with GM's Create Grid tool? It gives the option to create grid areas, and then you could just copy the label of the grid area to the point within it using the Copy attributes process.
