Shifting points along a trajectory
Hi!
I have several points located on a curve.
How can I move them along this curve by a fixed distance?
Thank you!

Hi @tikhpetr
As far as I know, there is no direct way of doing this in GM (although I'd be keen to hear from others if there is?). Also because your alignment is not a true curve with fixed radii and is made up of irregular tangents there is no simple geometric calculation that you can do either...
So I think your only option is some good old fashioned drafting! I'd probably use AutoCAD, but if you are determined to use GM you could try buffering each point by the distance you require to get the new location and snap to it to create the new point.
For example - say you wanted to move Point 2 along the line by 500 m I'd buffer the original point by 500 m as shown below:
Next I'd zoom in as far as you can (sub-millimetre) and insert a vertex at the intersection of the original line and the 500 m buffer as shown below:
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Alistair.

Hi, CarrickCon
Thanks for your participation! But unfortunately this was just an example. The total number of points is about 500. As far as I know, slavery is prohibited on this planet.))

Hi @tikhpetr - well the sooner you get started the sooner you will be finished... It's one more month to the Christmas holidays, so you have lots of time! 😆😆😆
