I have a shape file with attributes about population.

How do I create something like the image I posted? I'm trying to have GM analize the attribute and color the different areas referring to the population attribute.

In the Area Styles tab, choose to Apply Styling based on an Attribute, choose your population attribute from the dropdown menu, and click the Classify button. The new dialog will let you determine data breaks, color, etc. More information on settings and such can be found in the knowledge base.
