How do you export a region of a basemap to kmz/geotiff with less data

I would like to export a small region of World Imagery but the data set size is always very large and app hangs whenever I choose kmz or geotiff (web format)

When I rectify a jpeg using same Imagery as reference I can get a quick export by exporting as GeoTiff then converting geotiff to kmz, and all is well.

Is there a way to export the imagery (without first rectifying a screen shot) such that I get a quick geotiff download?

Am I making sense?

  • World imagery server is super slow, it hasn't got anything to do with the process of outputting. GM is downloading at the zoom level you are at in the main window, so the only way to speed up the process is to zoom way out, but then of course you lose resolution.

Some governments have free imagery data WMS services of their own with faster servers as there are much fewer users. You could look into accessing one of those if they are available for the area you are working in.
