Choose text halo color

I would like to add to the call for users to be able to select the halo color for text.

Alternatively a stronger color such as black rather than the current pale grey.

I'm giving this another kick... Is there any chance of getting a decent halo effect for text in GM please? All of your direct competitors seem to be able to do it, but sadly not the case for GM (see example below).

In addition the existing black (?) halo, which is pretty average to say the least, does not plot from the map layout editor (MLE), or at least I've never been able to do it. The result is that in the MLE if you want text to stand out you need to put it in a bounding box with solid white fill. This is very clunky...

Your consideration would be appreciated.

It looks like we have an internal todo item GM-763 for this that has been around quite a while.

It would not be difficult to do, so I've targeted it for the next release and might just throw it in myself.

Thanks Amanda - I just downloaded 26.1 Beta full of hope and expectation, only to be disappointed! 😔

The "halo effect" only seems to work if you create text/labels in the Workspace View and then view/plot it from the Map Layout Editor (see red dot and halo text in screengrab below). However, when you insert a "Text Element" in the MLE you get the new "Halo/Thick Halo" option but all it does is create text in a box with white background fill (see lower label below in screengrab below). I've tried removing the "Frame" and modifying the fill and transparency setting etc. but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I typically do most of my feature labelling in the MLE when producing report figures, so it would be awesome if you guys could please fix the MLE "Insert/Text Element" command to give halo text.

I actually just fixed the Map Layout Editor to work properly with halo text today! So that will possibly be in the next beta later this week, although might not have time to get reviewed first. Otherwise it will be in the next beta after that.
