problem with using difference function in spatial operations

I've created a set of points along a streamline vector, and then a set of buffers from those points. I wanted to split the buffers by the streamline, but I got multiple geometry errors. So I created a meter-wide buffer of the streams and used the "Difference" function under the Operations tab in Spatial Operations to essentially split the point buffers by the streamline buffers. That worked fine, but in the control center, the resulting point buffer layer still shows the same number of features as the original layer, even though you can see onscreen that the original buffers were split.
