Finding the Average Elevation of Selected LiDAR Points

Noobie question here,

I have selected with the digitizer and small area about 100x100 ft. I like to calculate the average elevation of the LiDAR points. What I have done is:

copy and paste into a new layer,

open the layer attribute.

copy the elevation column and pasted it into Excel.

Used Excel functions to find the average.

Can you point me to a tutorial or an easier way without Excel that accomplishes the same with fewer clicks?
