Workflow for applying different ground filtering to different surface conditions?

Does anyone have a workflow for:

  1. Partitioning areas of Las point clouds by surface conditions.
  2. Apply different ground filtering to each partition.
  3. Recombining the partitions into a seamless dataset that can be then used for surface modeling.

My LiDAR point cloud covers a region with highly diverse surface vegetation making a single ground filtering impossible.
