COMPARE_STR to look for asterisk

Hi,

I have a shapefile with NAME field containing sometimes an asterisk '*'.

How can I search them with COMPARE_STR without incurring in a wildcarded search which will return all records?

This is doable within the GlobalMapper application, but I am not able to use it in a script.
