Tiger Line

I just downloaded version 9.03 and am trying to open a group of Tiger Line files in a single state's folder. I am getting:

No data could be loaded from the file blah.RTE

for every county. Once they are all loaded, the map displays, but why the message? Luckily, NJ only has 21 counties.

Which year/edition of Tiger data are you trying to load? The error is coming from Global Mapper finding a file with a .rte extension in the .zip file and trying to load it as one of the other formats that uses a .rte extension. However, in most cases the format should be auto-detected and you should not see the error. I just tried loading Hudson County, NJ from Tiger 2006 second edition with v9.03 and did not get any error dialogs.

    Thanks,

I'm using the 2006 version downloaded from the Census FTP site. The files for NJ were unzipped and I asked to open all files in the folder. If I just leave them zipped, it works fine. By the way, will GM open any of the recognized formats embedded in a zip file?

There's your problem, just leave the files zipped and Global Mapper will automatically recognize the .zip as a Tiger .zip and only try to load the necessary files.

Global Mapper will automatically recognize most of the supported formats in a .zip file. The only exceptions are some of those that have extensions used by multiple formats where it is not easy for Global Mapper to tell which format it is supposed to be.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
