UAV imagery: How to - removal/ equalizing of cloud shadows

The Australian sun and big fluffy clouds play havoc with drone captured aerial imagery. Temporary clouds cause dark banding in the ortho. 
I have tried using python histogram matching but limited success, usually with a trade-off elsewhere.
Anyone care to share some success?

I know satellite imagery deploys methods but after a uav (affordable) solution to be used with Pix4d and Globalmapper
