Global Mapper v25.0

Viewing lines with height in 3D view

If I draw a line with vertices over a terrain, and then assign it a height of say, 5m, should I then, by default, be able to view that line as something that looks like a (thin) wall in the 3D viewer?
This works fine with areas with a height attribute, but seems not to work for lines - it is only possible to see a top line at the 5m elevation and a bottom line on the terrain.  I seem to recall I have viewed lines with heights that looked extruded in the 3D viewer, in the past, but no amount of fiddling with line properties, elevations, layer properties or 3D view etc settings.... is making it happen now.  Perhaps I imagined it...

    Hi Bill,

As far as I can tell, this can only be done in the 3D viewer with area features, for as far back as I've been here (~6 years). I've added a feature request for this, but I'd expect it won't be added right away as we're preparing for the next Global Mapper release.

    Best regards,

    ~Jeff

Thanks Jeff - I must have imagined it (it is a reasonable expectation) or confused it with Google Earth in which areas and lines can display their height.  If anybody else was stuck with the same issue, a work-around is to generate narrow buffers from the lines, which effectively creates long thin areas following the lines, which can then have heights which are visualised in the 3D Viewer.

Nice workaround, Bill! I probably should have thought of it myself.
