Line drawn with digtizer tool moves when printed

At the suggestion of the FAA web site, I downloaded dlgv32Pro (Global Mapper) v9.02 to view rasterized navigation charts. I then used the digitizer tool to draw a line from my departure point to the destination airport. Looks great on the screen, and if I zoom on a portion of the route, then line stays where it should be. But if I then print that zoomed portion, the printout shows the line moves (a lot) relative to the map image. I've tried printing to my printer and to a .pdf, but in both cases the line won't stay put. Is there some way to join the line to the map? Thanks.

That is very odd, I would expect the same results on the printout as on-screen. You might try using the File->Capture Screen to Image menu command to generate a graphics file that you can then print from another application to see if that works better.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

I tried it (with an FAA sectional and digitizer) and had no problems.

It might just be an issue with the free version. I'm attaching two images: one is the screen image and one is the printed version. You'll see the effect I'm talking about. Thanks for the tip.

Tell me how you load these files?

From the startup page, I choose "Open Your Own Data Files", then choose the first .tif file (chart) I want. For subsequent charts, I choose "File -> Open Data File(s)..." from the menu bar, then choose the .tif. I'm using 3 overlapping .tif files for this particular problem.

When you draw the line in the Digitizer Tool, do you right-click to complete the line and make it permanent or are you still actively drawing it when you try to print?

    Thanks,

I right-click to end the drawing of the line first.

Can you save a workspace file that generates this problem when you print so that I can take a look? Does this problem happen in the print preview as well?

    Thanks,

    Mike,

I'm attaching a screenshot of the print preview, which doesn't show the problem. I'm also attaching a screenshot of the .pdf I printed immediately from the preview, which does show the problem (I wasn't able to upload the pdf file---don't know why). Also, I'm attaching the workspace document.

    Thanks, Mike.

    Jim,

I just tried loading your workspace on my machine (the rasters were of course missing, but the line was there) and then I loaded some other data under it and printed to a PDF and it was fine.

It is possible that there is something unique with your rasters causing this. Would it be possible for you to send me the first raster loaded by your workspace (the Wichita 80 North.tif) file? If it is too big to attach to a message or email to support@globalmapper.com [make sure to zip it up first], you can FTP it to ftp.globalmapper.com. Just use a username of 'upload' and a password of 'upload' to gain write access.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Jim,

The problem is now solve. It only affected line segments that went very far off of the printout when printing to a very high resolution device (i.e. my PDF driver is apparently higher resolution than my printer, so it worked fine for my printer but not the PDF driver). I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper9.zip with this fixed for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v9.xx installation folder to give it a try.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

You did it, Mike. It's "spot on." Thanks a million. Since this was a problem with "long" line segments, do I need to be concerned with how long the line is? In the future, I will probably be drawing lines longer than what I did in this problem.

    Jim,

You do not need to be concerned with the length of lines in the future, the fix took care of the problem for good.
