How to generate spot elevation from DEM

Hello,

I would like to generate spot elevations from DEM using GM. Usually spot elevations mountain, hill peaks,  are represented with dots in maps and I want to generate a similar file.

I tested the feature using worldwide ASTER GDEM and GM generated the contours with max elevations but not the spot elevations (the highest peaks).

Is there anything I am missing?

Is there any material, video, tutorial or other material I can use to generate the spot elevations.

Could you please help me to solve this problem?
