Hide or change a DEM location

I'm teaching a geology class using GM 19.1. I am creating a lab of a geographic location that has a published paper that would provide too many clues for the students. I have LiDAR and a resultant DEM and imagery of the site. I'd like to turn the site into arbitrary local coordinates so the students can't just look it up. Any thoughts on how to do this would be appreciated.
