How to select underlying lines, areas, points ?

Hi,
I'm having a line feature, which is totally covered by other line features within the same layer. So I was wondering how to select this underlying line? Is there a method (for example by holding a key) to cycle through each feature of the super-imposed lines until the desired line is is being selected? I just need the line to be selected, not additionaly its vertices too.
The same question for superimposed identcial area features or points.

Hi
One way of selecting points vs. lines is to use the configuration tab and select Vector Display. Here you can choose what types of features can be selected, areas, points or lines. Also, if you are trying to differentiate between line types, you can filter what you see. This might help.

Thank you very! Your suggestion is very good if the features are either of differend kind or at least of different line types. But how to select lines which are of identical type, e.g. 2 borderlines sharing a common border?

Assuming that the lines have some sort of differentiation, such sharing part of a name in common (or other metadata), then you might be able to use the "search by attribute, name, description" to further separate your data. You can then select/edit the sorted data and put onto new layers that can be turned on/off, or have the "allow feature selection" turned off. The image is from Openstreetmap where I have sorted on the string "*road" and can put roads onto a layer separate from (say) avenues. Is this any help?

Thank you, in some cases this method will work although it's more inconvinient than just clicking onto my prefered lin on the map.
But how to select identical lines which lack any attribution or names? I think it would be an idea if GM could provide "a hotkey". If it is pressed a mouseclick selects each element in sequence which is unter the mouse pointer.

Howdy,I can't remember when/where I read this, but I think if you select the top feature with the "info tool", and then keep clicking, GM will cycle down through the underlying features. The info will show which one is selected. When you get the one you want, click "edit", and you will get the same screen as if you had selected that one to edit first. You can edit from there. I don't know what version this started in, nor which version you have, but I hope it works for you. Also, I noticed that with only two overlapping areas, holding the "a" key will select the bottom one. I don't know if it works for lines and points. You can also use "a", "l", "p" and "v" to help select specific features where it's a crowded mess. Holding the "alt" key disables snapping and can sometimes help with troublesome selection too.Good luck,Mark

HI! Thanks, your hint regarding the "info tool" indeed works. If clicking the right mousebutton, the tool cycles through each line and I could edit it.
But I'm note able to select a line using this method e.g for combining this line with other ones.
I also tried using the keys and also the "alt"-key during selection within "Digitizer-tool" but I couldn't select underlying lines.
