Managing labels on polygons by shape/geometry area

Hello,
Is there any way to prevent polygons of certain size from getting labels? I see that you can set labels by attribute value, so that if "area" was an attribute, one could set value ranges for styles and have them show up accordingly. This does not seem to affect "grouped" polygons, or several polygons that together constitute one feature record in the data. So my question becomes, is there any way to use the geometry of individual polygons to establish a criteria for what gets a label?
