Length of Path Profile

I'm trying to determine the actual length of a line along a 3D surface. At first I thought the "3D Distance on Surface" in the "Show Path Details" dialogue box would be the information I was looking for. However, I soon realized that distance was the 3D version of the "Straight Line Distance."

Is there a way to determine the true 3D length of a line as it meanders and undulates over a digital elevation model?

I appreciate any help you might be able to offer.

Thank you.

I actually would expect the "3D Distance on Surface" value to be what you are after. It is the length of the specified path as it meanders over the surface (i.e. the 2D length plus any length contributed by elevation changes over the path of the line).

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
