x,y coordinate displayed in "Pixel Information" dialog

When displaying elevation data and using the "Feature Info Tool", the x,y coordinate of the pointer (mouse) is displayed, rather than the location of the elevation post.

In the case of "pixel is point", I would expect the information tool to return the constant, fixed coordinate of the elevation post...which would be for x  x_origin + (column * pixel_x_size) + (.5 * pixel_x_size)  the last term to offset from the pixel's own 'bounding volume'...then the same thing for the y axis.

Just doesn't make sense to me for the x,y to reflect the pointer's location when clicked -- wondering if anyone else agrees or has opposing views.

Thanks!

  • As a quick solution, you can right click the layer in the control center and click Layer > Create Point Features at Elevation Grid Cell Centers

The strange thing to me is that they have accounted for this in the Elevation display where you get the following (as an example)
    Elevation: Height = 891.311 m@ cell center [Height = 891.316 m @ cursor] [Raw Value: 891.31079 m]
