Merge 2 XYZ files Export 1 file averaged where overlapped

I have 2 sets of xyz point (ascii files) and have imported them into Global Mapper (Ver. 16.1). I would like to export a single file containing both sets of data but have the data averaged where the 2 sets overlap. Does anyone know how to do this in Global Mapper (Ver. 16.1).

How do you define "overlap"? Like the distance between points being less than X meters (could be two or more points)?
The term "averaged" has a different meaning to different people. I suppose you would need to specify a function to be used for each attribute that you wanted to combine. (sum, arithmetic average, geometric average, etc.)
I can think about doing this in a spreadsheet. It sounds like a large project to add to Global Mapper, given the flexibility that would be appropriate.
