Does WMTS aerial mapping from INZ work for anoyone?

I am trying to add LINZ WMTS aerial imagery to global mapper software.

the WMTS get capabilities for this layer should be this:

https://data.linz.govt.nz/services;key=b023876e9bcb4531a010722c939164bf/wmts/1.0.0/set/4702/WMTSCapabilities.xml

This url works fine in QGIS but not on global mapper.

are there any other settings, or tweaks I might be missing?

The URL worked for me in QGIS too, but only once. Upon loading the layer again in a new project it crashes QGIS regardless of which of the two CRS options I use and cleaning cached files did not help nor did deleting the source and readding.

In GlobalMapper it fails too for me (GlobalMapper 18.2 build170617) from the start.

When using another program with WMS capability to connect to the LINZ server I get an unknown format capabilities.xml error, so it could be that the problem lies with the LINZ server rather than GlobalMapper

Tried it myself. Works a dream in QGIS but falls over in GM. Error message attached. One for the developers maybe?

The error is the same as I got.

Just tried the LINZ server again for downloading another WMTS image and got an error again:

Trying to use WMS instead of WMTS gives (longer) error messages too with the LINZ server in GlobalMapper, QGIS and another program with WMS capability give an access error message (access forbidden).

Which leaves me wondering if this is a GlobalMapper issue or an issue with the LINZ server, or perhaps a combination.
Of course it is also possible I could be overlooking something somewhere.

Does it still work after closing QGIS, start a new project and then try to add the layer from the saved sources list (assuming you saved the source)? That is where it fails with me (QGIS 2.18 latest version) after working the first time in QGIS.

Did anyone get this working?  I emailed LINZ and they found it unusual that the error I get (Error downloading WMS data tile /services;key=mykey/tiles/v4/layer=53451,%7Bstyle%7D/EPSG:3857/15/32089/20780.png WMS server GetMap query failed with status code 400) mentions WMS, not WMTS.
