Hyperspectral Imagery Data and processing

Let's discuss.  Anyone is welcome to comment.  I am interested if anyone on GM can comment on usage of multispectral or hyperspectral imagery with bands outside of visual spectrum. More and more data of all types is becoming available in the public domain and this type of imagery has many applications.  

Agriculture?  Ecology?  Plant species identification? Forestry? Mining? Geology?
