Negative values in NAME field stripped with IMPORT/EXPORT script

I have a script that imports specified directories, and exports in .mp format. If a file is over a specified size, the script moves the files, and imports, loads a style file, and tiles them out. Bathymetric contours with a 0x23 MP_TYPE are stripped of their negative values when Global Mapper re-exports them.
I thought the line styles file would prevent this, but it continues to happen. How do I keep Global Mapper from deciding that the 0x23 MP_TYPE doesn't deserve a negative value?
I'm using GM 18.1
