Drape orthophoto over DEM

I am having a .dxf DSM and a georeferenced .tiff orthphoto. I would now like to simply overlay (drape) the orthophoto onto the terrain for visualization purposes. As can be seen in the attached image, the photo layer cannot be draped over the dxf terrain. I have loaded both layers in the Overlay Control Center and checked the "Texture Map" Option in the orthphoto options. The image layer is over the terrain layer. What am I doing wrong? Is the dxf format not supported for overlays? Thank's very much for your help!

I solved the problem by creating an elevation grid.. However the resolution of the draped orthophoto is not yet satisfactory (see attachement). It can be improved by rendering a smaller area, however I want to display the whole map with reasonably high resolution. Can you help me with improving the resolution?

We have made extensive improvements to the 3D Viewer in Global Mapper 18.  Feel free to download the beta and see if it gives you a better result.
