How can I create a line feature through points in an order specified by point metadata attribute

Dear Global Mapper users:

I have dbf text file coordinates of points in lat/lon format. The DBF also has a column of "Record Number."  I've figured out how to import the points, and each points record number in the DBF gets loaded as an attribute of the point feature in global mapper. This is fine.

I've figured out how to create a line from the point features by selecting the points, right clicking on the map and choosing "Create Line Features > Create New Line Features from Selected Points" but this connects the points based on which are closest to each other I Think.

What I'd like to do is create a line feature that traces the points based on the "record number" attribute of the point.

Or if there's some way to create a line by reading a txt file, I could do that, but I can't figure out how to do that.

If there's a way to do this for many line segments by means of a script that would also be very nice.
