Crossing contours.. big no no

Hi there-

I have a 3m resolution XYZ terrain that I'd like to contour at 1m intervals then export as a DXF. My problem is that the contours produced cross each other on steep slopes. This is unacceptable for my processes so I have to use another package. Somewhat disappointing.

The relevant settings I'm using to contour are 3m resolution, 1m interval, line simplification of 0.29, line smoothing on. Interpolation is off for both the source grid (arc binary) and the contouring.

Version 9.00.

Cheers,
Mark A

    Mark,

Try turning off line simplification completely as it can cause crossings in very steep areas with a tight contour interval.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

I believe you meant to say to turn 'smoothing' off? You can't turn line simplification off from what I can see. I turned smoothing off and it still occurs.

I also left the simplification slider at the default value of 0.50 and it also still occurs.

    Mark,

No I meant to turn simplification off. You can turn it off by sliding the simplification slider all the way to the left. You might try turning smoothing off as well if turning simplification does fix the problem.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
