Drawing of range rings for point feature?

CorsabrinCorsabrin Global Mapper UserPosts: 29
Hi there, I have several point features scattered around the world. For each point feature, I have a field called 'radius' which is a numeric value. Using this radius, I would like to draw a range ring for that particular feature, where the 'radius' field contains the value of the range ring radius to be used. As I have multiple point features, is there a way to perform this regime in global mapper?

Thank you all in advance

Regards
Ben

    Ben,

You can actually do this now by using the option to create a buffer around selected features rather than the range ring option. If you select the point features with the Digitizer Tool, then select the option to create buffer areas around selected features, you can specify that the buffer distance come from an attribute of the feature, like 'Radius'. For point features, the buffer is a range ring so this provides the same function as a simple range ring with the attribute option available.

    Thanks,

    Mike

At the moment, there is no way to use an attribute to specify the range value.  I have added feature request #17174 to our task list so we can evaluate adding this function to a future version of Global Mapper.  We will post a message to this thread when the status of the feature request changes.

  • This functionality has been implemented in the minor releases since October 2016 (18.0.3), http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/products/global-mapper-download.php
and will also be included in the upcoming Global Mapper v 18.1 release.
