    Hi Andy,
If you use the Info tool to click on the layer on the map, in the Info box that opens up you will see "Map Name" as the 4th field from the top.  This name is the name of the layer in the Overlay Control Center.  Coming from the other direction, if you right click on a layer in the Overlay Control Center, you will have options to "Zoom to Selected Layer(s)", or you could use "Select All Features in Layer(s) with Digitizer Tool".  Or another way might be to Select All (Ctrl + A) in the Overlay Control Center, uncheck the layers (this will turn everything off), then turn on the one layer you are interested in seeing.  I hope one of those helps.

Nearly there  but.....I should say I have about 500 shape files in one layer. Going from overlay control centre to maps is good now... but how do I select an item on the map and find it in the overlay control centre out of the 500 individual objects in a layer?
