Re-contouring to meet predetermined slope requirement
Donche
Global Mapper User
Hello,
I have a topographic grid of a study area. The existing slopes alongside the pink lines vary from 10° to 52°. Are there any tools that can be used to generate a new grid based on the original grid so that slopes derived from the new grid will meet the predetermined slopes as shown on the attached below?
Thanks
Don

Hi Donche,
You can create a narrow area feature based on your line, then slope the surface away from the area feature using the flatten area option, which is available in v15.
Create the area feature with the buffer too, add elevation values to the vertices of the new area feature by selecting the Digitizer tool, and then right click and choose Apply Elevations from Terrain Layers to Selected Features.
Select the new area feature with the Digitizer tool, right click and choose Advanced Feature Creation Options > Calculate Flattened Site Plan Grid from Selected Areas. In the Flatten Parameters Setup dialog, choose to Flatten to Area Heights and select the desired slope.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Josie. Much appreciated. I still sit on Version 13. Do you know any other software that can handle this, such as in engineering industry?
