Mike, I got problens with the 3d view (DEM loaded only): In the beginning the 3D screen remains empty, the "rotate the view" button don't work and so on. Clicking arround sometimes I can continue working sometimes not. Are there issues? b072214 Regards Henry

    Hello Henry,

    A couple of questions:

    * What version of Global Mapper are you using?
    * What DEM source are you using?

Terrain data can be slow to load into the 3D viewer, but there shouldn't be any problems that I'm aware of.

    regards,

    ~Jeff

    Jeff,
    * I use GM 15.2 64 bit build072214 (see my first mail)
    * I used a gmg file and zoomed in very hard to overcome the slow visualization. (the 3d view had become much faster in one of the last releases (13 or 14) and I think to be experienced, but now thats gone)

    Regards
    Henry

OK, so how large is the GMG file? I did a quick test with a 12 megabyte file, and that worked fine, but I don't think that that's very large.

    Jeff,
the gmg file is about 3GB. But I took a part of 7 MB and again: There is no change if I move the mouse, then there is one, then there is none.

    Hello Henry,

Is it possible for you to provide the 7MB file for us to test with? Also, can you provide the information about the video adapter that you're using?

    thanks,

    ~Jeff

    Jeff,
I have the following video adapter:

    Nvidia Quadro 400
    CLASS: Win32_VideoController
    __GENUS: 2
    __PROPERTY_COUNT: 8
    AdapterRAM: 536870912
    Caption: NVIDIA Quadro 400
    CurrentBitsPerPixel: 32
    CurrentHorizontalResolution: 1600
    CurrentNumberOfColors: 4294967296
    CurrentRefreshRate: 60
    CurrentVerticalResolution: 1200

The attached gmg file has still the extension txt. Please change back.
    Regards
    Henry

    Hi Henry,

I did receive check out the attached GMG file. It loaded fine, and the 3D performance seemed to work well on my computer here, even in the debugger, which can be on the order of 10x slower. I don't see this data taking up a lot of GPU memory either, so that doesn't seem to be a problem.

At this point, I'd probably lean towards focusing on your video card's 3D performance. Is this the only data type that you're having problems with? Can you load other types of Global Mapper data (such as, perhaps, the online imagery/terrain data) that work OK in the 3D viewer? How about other 3D applications? Do you use any on a regular basis that have problems, or that work fine?

Also, you might want to ensure that your video drivers are up to date.

    regards,

    ~Jeff

    Jeff,
thanks for your investigation. I will futher observe the different behaviour

    1. in the office (GM15.2+GEM+LiDAR) - faster cumputer, but 3D works strange
    2. at home (GM 15.2 dongle licence) - slower computer, but 3D works fine.

The behaviour changed in the office only and I don't know why.

My colleagues will have a look on new drivers.

    Thanks and regards
    Henry
