GPS Input data

I would like to input some positional data using the standard NMEA 0183 format via text message but wondered if all NMEA sentences are required for GM or can we just use the fix message ($GPGGA)? Also can GM take more than one feed at a time for plotting of more than one external position?

    Global Mapper does support positioning just with a $GPGGA message, but can only track a single device at a time.
