Selection of vertices inside / outside an area

Hello global-mappers,

1) Is it possible to select all vertices of a line-feature that are inside an area-feature?

2) Is it possible to select all vertices of a line-feature that are outside an area-feature?

If not, please use this as a suggestion.
Would be great for vertex-editing - and an easy solution for http://www.globalmapperforum.com/forums/bug-report/11013-updating-elevations.html

Thanks!

Oliver

    Oliver,

There is a new POLY SELECT mode available in the Digitizer Tool in v15.1. If you right-click and go under the Advanced Selection submenu you can enable POLY SELECT mode, then draw your polygon (left click to place points, right-click to place last point and complete) and it should select vertices and features inside the area if you have vertex mode turned on. If you previously had drawn a box and selected everything you can hold down SHIFT when you right-click to place the last point and toggle the selection.

    Thanks,

    Mike,

Thanks. Yes, I know the new polyselect (was a suggestion of me:).
But what I ment this time with 'area' is an existing fix (not temporary) area of a feature (for example a polygon.shp-file).

So, is it possible, to 'auto'-select the VERTICES of a line inside/outside a given polygon - like the advanced selection-method 'select all points inside a polygon' (but for VERTICES of a line for example).

    best regards,

    Oliver

    Oliver,

I don't see any reason not to make that the default behavior if vertices would show for the selected lines. I have updated the option for selecting lines in an area feature to select any vertices in the area (or to unselect if Shift is held so you can select all then invert in the area). I have placed a new build at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper15.zip with the latest changes for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v15.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v15 version there is a new build at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper15_64bit.zip .

    Mike,

Thanks! Good idea to make this the default behavior.

I tried it with the "Select all Line Features within the selected Areas" in the advanced selection dialog and it worked without errors.

To get the inverse selection of the line-vertices, I only see the possiblity to build an "inverse area" and then use the same command ("Select all Line Features within the selected Areas" with the inverse area).

Can I build such an "inverse area" with GM (for example: substract two ploygon-layers)?

Another idea for the "advanced selection dialog" would be a new option ""Select all Point/Line/Area Features OUTSIDE the selected Areas" or an option "inverse selction".

Thanks for your help and perfect support!

    Mike,

figured out how to substract two areas from eachother in GM:)

just my ideas for the advanced selection menu remain for the 'suggestion box':
    a) 'select all points/lines/areas OUTSIDE selected areas'
    b) 'inverse selection'

    Thanks,

    Oliver

    Oliver,

I have added a new option in Advanced Selection Options to select the lines outside an area. Should work how you expect. I have placed a new build at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper15.zip with the latest changes for you to try. Mike,

    Thanks!
I have just tested the new option "select all line-features outside selected area" and found a small bug, because the 'partial outside-lines and vertices' do not get selected when chosen.

Moreover a small mistake in the text. It should ask "Select only those lines that are completely OUTSIDE the selected areas or include those that are partially OUTSIDE the areas as well?"

Neverthless THANKS for the rapide response and the new build!

Please find the attached screenshot for illustration.

    Oliver,

I have updated the text to more clearly reflect how the "select outside" behavior works and also made it select the vertices as expected when allowing lines that are only partially outside of the area to be selected. I have placed a new build at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper15.zip with the latest changes for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v15.xx installation folder to give it a try.
