I am unable to access that online datasource, as well. The online datasources are hosted by 3rd party servers, this one appears to be down at this time - I will see if I can find any additional information.

LANDSAT too...
...but I think they are both NASA servers. -
I can confirm that both the ASTER GDEM and Landsat7 online sources come from the same NASA/JPL server. That server appears to currently be down, likely for year-end maintenance.
Thanks,

Seems to still be down.
Can you confirm?
Any indication of when they will be online again?
Thanks,

Hi Marty,
Yes I can confirm - I am unable to access these sources as well. However, I was able to download ASTER GDEM from Global Data Explorer (Powered by GeoBrain) - which was linked on the source page ASTER Global Digital Elevation Map, for ASTER GDEM in Global Mapper.
We are contacting the server administrators for the NASA link, to see if it will be down long term. Meanwhile, Mike is adding the USGS download link as an alternative link for ASTER GDEM data in Global Mapper's latest version, which may be downloaded here:Global Mapper Downloads.

Thanks Jasmine.
I am running v15.0.7. Do I need to reinstall the latest version to update the WMS list or can I do that manually? -
If you get the latest build then the new server will show up under the Terrain sources as a 'Backup Source'. I have placed a new build at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper15.zip with the latest changes for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v15.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v15 version there is a new build at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper15_64bit.zip .

Mike

Hi Mike,
I'm having the same problem, but I'm using Global Mapper V14.
We got it less then a year ago, can we get out license converted to V15 so we can use the file above, or can you give us a v14 of global mapper with the ASTER backup link?
Thank you,
Maxim -
The backup link just takes you to the web page Global Data Explorer (Powered by GeoBrain) to manually download the data in your web browser. There wasn't support for online sources that are just links to web pages in v14 (this was just added in v15.0.6 I think), but you can just manually go to that link.
Thanks,
Mike

Ah, I see....I've been to their site....but it looks like you have to download it in full resolution, peace by peace....which is a bit much for what I need to do.
Did you happen to find out when the WMS service will be back up and running? Or if there is a back up one?

Maxim,
We emailed the administrator early last week but haven't heard anything back. I am getting concerned that streaming server is down for good, I know it had hardware problems before. We may have to see if we can get a local copy of the data and decimate and host it ourselves similar to how we do for the SRTM data. I'm not aware of any other streaming source for the ASTER GDEM data.
Thanks,
Mike

Along with health.
I'm new to this world of global mapper and leaving behind a autocad r14 (with civil) intrigue me curious if there is another server to perform contour. thanks
traductor google earth. -
You can load any of your own local terrain data, or get the streaming SRTM or NED 10m (for US) data for contour generation. For ASTER GDEM you can manually download areas of interest from Global Data Explorer (Powered by GeoBrain) and then load those into Global Mapper.
Thanks,
Mike
