exporting dxf file

Hi , my first post here first I should mention that I'm a software engineer and I have very few knowledge of GIS and I'm working on a virtual reality project . I want to import a 3d model of a land to 3dsmax . I think I should export a "DXF mesh" from global mapper and then import the dxf file to 3dmax . I downloaded a DEM file from WebGIS - Geographic Information Systems Resource - GIS and imported it into global mapper and tried to export dxf mesh . but either I import the dxf file into 3dsmax or global mapper itself I just see a black plane surface . is there any options I should change when exporting my dxf ?
I'll appreciate if someone can help me with this
thanks

A DXF mesh is basically a grid surface, but Global Mapper will load back in as a connected series of 3D points that will look like a black blob until you zoom in. You might instead want to export a 3D DXF Face file and see if 3dsmax likes that better. That should create a TIN surface.
Thanks,
Mike
