Exporting the DEM data as GeoTIFF

Hi,

We are using the Global Mapper 9.1 version. We purchased the 9.0 version on 21.11.2007 and after receiving a mail from you about the update, we installed and updated it to the 9.1 version. But on the contrary of your mail that says that "...This includes speeding it up..." it started to work when exporting too slow, it is almost impossible to export DEM datas as GeoTIFF. When we were using the 9.0 version it was easier and faster than now. For example with 9.0 it took 10-15 minutes to export but with 9.1 version it took 5 hours for only %1 of the exporting. What can be the problem?

It sounds like something is seriously wrong, there should not have been any slowdowns like that. First of all, I'd suggest downloading and installing v9.02 from http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper9_setup.exe and see if it helps (we are just getting ready to announce the release).

If not, can you give me more details about exactly how you are exporting your DEM data, including whether you are loading it from disk or an online source and what resolution, export bounds, and export options you are using?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Thanks for the link. We installed it and now it works. In v9.1 for exporting we were using these sections: File - Export Raster and Elevation Data - Export GeoTIFF

From the Window GeoTIFF Export Options:
GeoTIFF options- Generate TFW file and 8-bit Palette Image Packbits / LZW Compressed

    Export Bounds:
All data visible on screen (draw a box) -
    Exporting GeoTIFF (%0)
    Finding Optimum Palette

These were the options that we use with v9.1, but after installing the v9.2 it works good.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Again we have same problem with v.9.2 also. The options that we use are written above. What can be wrong? What must we do? Please help us as soon as possible.

Can you perhaps send the file(s) that you are trying to export to support@globalmapper.com so that I can take a look?

    Thanks,

You can FTP the data to ftp.globalmapper.com. Use a username of 'upload' and a password of 'upload' to gain write access.

    Thanks,

Did your colleague use an username of 'upload' and a password of 'upload' to log in to the FTP site? They should be able to use any FTP client, such as DOS 'FTP' to access the site. Access through a web browser (like IE) is not recommended. I personally use CuteFTP.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

We can't open the ftp address so we can't enter the user name and password. My colleague says that can only use web browser, don't have any ftp program. So if there is another way to send the file please advise:) By the way i have no idea about neither this program nor any other terms, i am only the interpreter:)

You colleague should try to connect to ftp://upload@ftp.globalmapper.com/. This way even a browser should ask for the password.

That should work, or just go to a DOS prompt and use DOS FTP. The command line would be 'ftp ftp.globalmapper.com'. You can then login. Use 'put <filename to upload>' to upload your files.

    Thanks,
