Hi Folks,

I may be imagining things here, but when I attended the GM Training Course a few years ago I seem to remember being able to add chainage markers and also label them or in GM speak "Create Perpendicular Lines Spaced Along Selected Line/ Area
Feature(s)" .

I'm using V22 now and when I try to add chainage markers to a vector line I can get the markers at a fixed interval no problem, but I can't seem to be able to label the chainage markers? The GM Help menu is pretty well useless on this topic, so I'm reaching out to this Forum for help regarding the correct workflow.

I seem to remember completing the dialogue box as per attached screen grab for markers at , say, 250 m centres with "Ch." prefix and "m" suffix. However when I do this I get the markers, but no labels.

Any and all help appreciated. ted.

Ta,
/al

I have a number of drill holes in which I wish to make an estimate of the mineralization contained within an radius-based area of influence (buffer). All of the holes are on one layer and frequently these buffers overlap. I would like to resolve the overlap by bisecting the overlap with a line and eliminating the portion of the buffer that is outside the bisecting line. The line would then be joined to the remainder of the buffer and a new area determined. Ideally, this process would be automated and the resolved areas could report to a spreadsheet. Is this within the powers of GM?

Hello! I work for a regulatory agency and one of our external filers uses Global Mapper 23.1 to create and export their shapefiles. When we import them into ArcPro, the precision in the attribute fields changes to '0' and causes problems with our system. I've tried using GM to open the shapefiles they send and the precision is retained and the data displays correctly. I also used GM to export the same shapefile to ensure the attribute data type and precision was set correctly and it is, however, again when I opened the shapefile that I exported the same problem exists.

Any thoughts on how to handle this? As you can imagine having a 23.68" diameter pipe being represented as a 2,368" diameter pipe is causing big problems!

For basemap reference, these staff members use downloaded Open Street Map .osm files, because all of the features are lumped into one layer, it's not possible to turn on or off labels for different features in the layer (Not that I'm aware of anyway).

This layer worked fine while the staff used Windows 10 PCs, however, after the upgrade to Windows 11, some of the labels no longer display, or display incorrectly. I've exhausted my knowledge base on how to get these feature labeled on their maps. It's important that we get this working as these staff members often work in rural parts of the state and have little to no cellular connection, they rely on the labels in the maps to locate the features they are searching for.

Has anyone else ran across this problem, or a similar problem?

Hello,

I’m hoping someone here might have a solution to a long-standing issue that’s been a bit of a nuisance.

Currently, it seems nearly impossible to view a 3D terrain elevation mesh alongside a point cloud using the path profile tool, or at least, I haven’t found a reliable way to do so. Loading point cloud data works fine, and a single 3D terrain mesh also displays correctly. However, unlike point clouds, you can’t compare two terrain meshes directly to visualize elevation differences.

My workaround has been to convert all 3D model meshes into LiDAR-style point clouds with matching resolutions, which allows for accurate comparison within the path profile tool. This method works, but it's time-consuming. Recently, we ran into a case where we need to compare a 3D model of a finished road surface against two terrains: pre-construction and post-construction.

While converting the terrains to point clouds works well, the road object itself has been much more difficult. I’ve tried generating a higher-density point cloud from the object, but the best result I’ve achieved is getting just the vertex points—not enough for proper comparison.

So my question is:

Is there any way to display multiple 3D objects in the path profile tool? Or Alternatively, is there a method to convert a 3D object into a point cloud with a specified point density, so it can be meaningfully compared against terrain data?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I hope someone knows some way to do this with relative ease

Basically I loaded an AutoCAD TIN Mesh, loads fine, looks fine, then I load a second one and i cant tell where one ends and the next begins because they are both gray color.

I have to compare both terrain meshes against each other so i can visually see the differences in distance between the meshes and where, having separate colors would greatly help this.

I tried selecting all meshes with the digitizer and right clicking then selecting edit features, but I get an error saying I cannot edit multiple meshes.

If I edit one triangular facet of the mesh at a time, it works just fine, color changes no problem, but each terrain is comprised of 5800+ individual triangles, manually changing the color of 11,000+ meshes is a nogo situation, there has to be a way to do this in an automated way.

Anyone have any ideas? maybe a way to combine the whole set of individual triangles into a single mesh? I'm stumped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dear All :)

are there any users here who, like me, appreciate good segmentation?

To be honest, the tool for this in GM has been giving me a headache for a long time. I don't find it intuitive, the results often don't correlate with my expectations, some of the values to be set have no meaning whatsoever.

I had tried to establish a new training tool in GM and based it on the capabilities of CloudCompare, but the subsequent implementation in GM25 was not successful and unfortunately not an improvement. It is really depressing for me to have this experience, because GM is a great piece of software in itself.

Can anyone give me any tips to improve the use of the segmentation tool? Of course I know the knowledgebase and I have already spent well over 100 hours with trial and error, but every “success” seems to be a fluke.

The example in the screenshot shows a cut through a ground surface and the “floating points” should be excluded, as well as tree trunks. However, trenches should remain as ground. It's quite simple: just follow the thick line. The values are just an example. I tried a lot of different ones already.

Thanks

Alex
