I'm new here.

I use GlobalMapper Pro for work and have run into some challenges.

We have to do various tasks on a regular basis, and I have a few questions about that. Mainly regarding exporting.

- How can I create a .xyz file with a 1-meter grid, X and Y without decimal places, and Z with a maximum of 3 decimal places?

- How can I select points in a .xyz file, copy them to a folder, and then export them as a KML or Shapefile?

- How can I make the background of an orthophoto black? My background is always black, but some photos have a white border around them.

- How can I export the orthophoto so that it is cropped to fit the terrain model (.xyz file)?

I’m not sure if so many questions are allowed in a single post.

i have a high vertical building (old chimney) and i would like to export some path profiles for a static analysis.

I would like to solve a display setting issue => I 'd like to see the whole 30m chimney without stretching the baseline. If i set the scale factor to 1 i only see the bottom part of the chimney.

What is the right setting here? I am confused...

When exporting labels from GM to DWG (or DXF), the text becomes a standard type text and doesn't keep the style as in GM.

Is there a way to export it as it is shown in GM?

I created some custom points with different colors from the classic dot - red, dot - white etc... and for example, in the file custom_point_types.txt I added this working line for the cyan color:

"DOT_CYAN","DOT_CUSTOM_3_0_255_255",0,255,"ArialNarrow~0~179208~0.000~0~0~16777215~-1",0,0,""

My question is: is it possible to modify the line in custom_point_types.txt so as to also have the border of the point colored black? I'll give you a random example of what I tried and that obviously doesn't work:

"DOT_CYAN","DOT_CUSTOM_3_0_255_255_DOT_EMPTY_CUSTOM_4_0_0_0",0,255,"ArialNarrow~0~179208~0.000~0~0~16777215~-1",0,0,""

Basically in the example above I tried to create a 3 pixel cyan dot and an overlapping 4 pixel empty dot for have the black border...

A client recently asked me how accurate the results were from Global Mapper 3D models? They use expensive mining software ($$$) and I guess there was some question over how reliable GM model results were.

So I created a model of a truncated cone (i.e. a 100 m deep "dummy" Pit with 45 degree side-slopes, 100 m radius pit floor and 200 m radius pit crest) and exported the Volume Calculation results directly from GM as shown on attached worksheet (N.B. elevation grid and earthworks sample spacing at 0.1mx0.1m).

You can see that GM modelled results compare favourably with values calculated from first principles with GM values about 0.1% to 0.5% greater in this case, depending on the parameter considered.

It should also be noted that the “3D Area” output from GM includes the “pit floor” area, so to get the inclined pit wall area its simply a matter of subtracting the pit floor area from the 3D Area given by GM. Simple!

Anyhow, thought I'd pass this along in case its helpful to others...

For personal projects, I now have Global Mapper 22. Using it, the path profile shows each bend in the path as a large yellow dot. However, the path profile does not show its intersection of its path with vector lines and  boundaries of area polygons as a dot with a vertical line. I cannot remember how to set the path profiles so it shows these intersections as shown in the attached path profiles. 

Can someone remind me how to do it?

Is there some setting I'm unaware of that may influence observable level of detail?

To export the results I'm re-running the adjustment again and the ELEV_DIFF is almost 0 but I can't seem to find the option to change the units in that value.

Now in the videos and documentation, there is a "Run Script" option when you open "File" menu but its not showing up inside global mapper.

I am able to see "Open Script Editor" and "Open Script Builder" but not the "Run Script".

Is there some option I need to turned on to make it appear ?

Does anyone know of way to display geo-tagged photos as "pop-ups" in GM? (refer to workflow in ArcMap here: https://www.esri.com/news/arcwatch/0912/import-geotagged-photographs-into-arcmap.html)

I've used GM for a long time to drop an icon (small camera) at the location and direction of a geo-tagged photo, but I've never figured out how to click on the icon and have actual photo pop-up? I've tried labelling the icon with the photo-link, but to no avail. My crude workaround is to insert the photo as an "Image Element" in the Map Layout Editor, but I'd really like to view photos as pop-ups when working in the main workspace window.

Any ideas?

Can somebody please explain how to use the new "Insert Arrow Element" in the V24 Map Layout Editor (MLE) or post an example workflow?

I'm baffled, but would love to be able to use arrows in the MLE (my current workaround is to add "arrow lines" in the map space and then insert text elements in the MLE which is a really clunky way of doing it).

I've looked in the MLE Help menu, but there is nothing there that I can find????

How can I get all the photos collected in the field as a .jpg file named after the point that is associated with it?

I have a set of points that were surveyed on field (thousands of them) and, when making a TIN out of them, I would like to have some buffer around them.

I usually use the coverage function to make an area feature around them and crop the resulting grid but this area has no elevation so I can't use it to make a buffer around the points.

Would it be possible to make it so the coverage feature gets the vertices elevations from the points it's made from?

An application we have uses the GlobalMapper SDK (v22.1).

I need to have several sessions of the application open at the same time and occassionally get this error, as it looks like GM is writing to the same Temp directory for all of my sessions.

Is there any way I can get GM to write to unique directories (perhaps based on its processID), so I don't get this locking issue.

1. I created a catalog of many LAS and LAZ files
2. Created a new rectangle to isolate my area of interest and exported the point cloud data within that rectangle to a new LAZ file.
3. Opened my new LAZ file and used SHIFT to drop the entire cloud by 15cm
4. I rename the layer in GM so that it includes "Shifted". But when I look at the metadata for this layer, I see that it still mentions the LAZ file I created.
5. I export the data to a new LAZ file (scandata-shifted.laz), but the metadata still mentions the first file.

The system feels like it is misleading me. I would have at least expected the metadata to reflect that the file was shifted. Better yet would be some kind of "flag" on every layer that has been modified since imported.

It could be to ground or a specific coordinates... rotating the 3D view specially with large data set it's really really hard!

The animation was done frame by frame so I guess it will be a great addition to the animation toolbar the option to keep loaded the layers that were already seen. Like this we can add some more context to the animation / presentation.

If I do it on one of our computers with version 22.1 it works fine and if I do it on the other with version 23 it scales the line thickness. I assume there is a setting somewhere that is different but I can't see any differences. Can anyone give me any tips on what setting I should be checking.

I have roughy 3600 points in the field that a field personnel needs to visit and capture some information about each point. Each point has the extra same attributes options. I would like to know it possible to create a pick-list for each attribute for the field personnel to select instead of typing it in.

i also need them to have to snap a photo.

I plan on breaking the 3600 points into smaller packages.
