I have just been made aware of a neat application that can be added to your mapping toolbox, Google Ozi. Google Ozi allows you to easily download Google Maps images and save them to large JPG or TIFF files with an Ozi .map file for calibration. This file than can be easily loaded for display into Global Mapper. I have created a short demonstration below see the link below (no audio). The application is available at http://www.zubak.sk/GoogleOzi/ Enjoy and let me know what you think of Google Ozi! Video Tutorial: Global Mapper and Google Ozi

For Immeadiate Release: LizardTech, a division of Celartem Inc. and a provider of software solutions for managing and distributing geospatial content, announced the integration of its MrSID Generation 4 (MG4) SDK into Global Mapper version 11.01.
Until recently, Global Mapper's customers were not able to load point cloud datasets that were compressed to MrSID Generation 4 using LiDAR Compressor into Global Mapper. However, with the addition of support for MG4 in Global Mapper version 11.01 users can load point cloud datasets compressed to MrSID Generation 4 for use in volumetric analysis, contour generation, and visualization.
"Adding MG4 integration to the latest version of Global Mapper is just another step to ensure that our customers have as many mapping tools possible at their fingertips," said Mike Childs, Global Mapper Software LLC. "Based on user feedback, we believe this integration with LizardTech will bring added value to our customers."
"LizardTech's goal is to give customers tools for using their point cloud data compressed with LiDAR Compressor in the applications they use every day," said Jon Skiffington, LizardTech's director of marketing. "Many of our customers use Global Mapper, but were not able to use it with MrSID files created in LiDAR Compressor. Now our customers can easily load point cloud datasets compressed to MrSID Generation 4 into Global Mapper."

Bob wrote me asking how to import a GDB file into Global Mapper. Because Global Mapper doesn't support reading GDB files directly, we need to get the file into a format that Global Mapper does support. Thanks to Garmin Mapsource which is delievered with most Garmin handheld GPS units we can save the GPB file into many different formats. One of the best formats to use is GPX which Global Mapper easily reads. On the menu toolbar look for "File - Save As" and the change the dropdown file type to GPX. Be sure to delete the letters GDB from the saved file before selecting save.
You can then just drag and drop that GPX file into Global Mapper. I made a quick video demo for you:

Just annouced this morning is the exciting news that Global Mapper Version 10 has been released! This has been a much anticipated release for those who follow the Global Mapper Forum and the program updates. Maybe you are asking yourself, why should I upgrade? Here are some of the improvements and newest features to version 10 of Global Mapper. - Added support for importing ESRI personal geodatabase (MDB) files.
- Added support for importing and exporting BigTIFF files.
