    Default Add Vertices to Lines

    Hi,
I have been given some old (1905) bathymetric data and been asked to provide the XYZ data for a group of modellers. I can get the XYZ data exported no problem but they are having problems because of the scarcity of the vertices within the data.

I have attached a quick drawing I made showing how coarse the data is. I know that I can manually add a vertex but is there anyway to automate the process? At the very least is there a quicker way than having to select Insert Vertex from the digitizer menu for every single vertex?

    Thanks for any help,

    Charlie

There are a couple different options that i know of to do what you are asking.

    1. Load your data in global mapper
    2. Select the line with the digitizer tool
    3. Right-Click, and a menu should open up.
    4. Hover over "Advanced Feature Creation Options"

In that pop-up menu are a bunch of different things you can do to the line. Of particular interest are the "Create Point Features Spaced Along Selected Feature(s)" and "Resample Selected Feature(s) at Specified Spacing" options, depending on what exactly you want to do. You can add as many vertexes as you want this way, quick and easy.

If you want to get real fancy, you can split up the original line into segments (using Advanced Feature Creation Options again), then repeat the above steps for each segment in order to really fine tune where you want to put your points.
