Open dialog file limit

It looks as though there is a fairly low limit, somewhere between 2000 and 3000 I think, on the number of files that can be opened at once using the Open command in the GUI (version 11.02).

If more files than this as selected in the dialog, then GM just ignores the Open request.

Easy enough to work around this, on the rare occasion I need to open several thousand files (most recently, shapefiles from a global set provided in one-degree tiles), by opening the data set in several batches.

I wonder if this is a Microsoft limitation, or a Global Mapper one.

By the way, having loaded a global dataset of 7,000-odd shapefiles, I couldn't believe how quickly GM exported a subset for the whole of Asia. Under two seconds. That's flash.

This is a Microsoft limitation. Global Mapper can only provide a buffer for the selected filenames of about 16KB in size. If the combined length of all of the filenames exceeds that GM isn't notified, Microsoft just truncates the result.

To load large quantities of files like that I would suggest instead using the File->Open All Files in Directory Tree menu command.
