How can I install the Geo Gratis Canada On Line Imagery into the Global Mapper list of availavle on line data & imagery downloads.
When I paste the geogratis web site location into the URL location Global Mapper is asking for layers ?
Does the GeoGratis Canada site provide its data via WMS server? If so, you should be able to add it via the File->Download Online Imagery menu command by providing the WMS 'GetCapabilities' URL. This should then provide a list of available layers on their WMS server, from which you can select the layer with the data you are after.
Mike,
The Canadian WSM is toporama, but I have not had much luck trying to open any of the 15 layers. I believe the ULR is [http://wms.ess-ws.nrcan.gc.ca/wms/toporama_en ]
I am also attaching some additional information of the toporama wsm with the hope that you might see something that I am missing, perhaps GM does not support the format.
Thanks
I just added the source using http://wms.ess-ws.nrcan.gc.ca/wms/toporama_en and selected the 'Road Network' layer, then pulled in data within 10 miles of 'Toronto, ON' and it seemed to work fine. You just need to make sure to zoom in far enough to actually see data.
Mike,
I just tried to do the same download road network 10 miles of toronto and it is giving me an error message. I wonder what i am doing wrong.
I creat a point Toronto, Ontarion and then ask for the available toporama data under layer road net work. It appears to be a text file
Mike,
I got the toporama data to download by typing in WMS in the service name field.
In previous efforts in trying to get the files to load I removed all the source layers and tried to start all over but for some reason I could not seem to remove the main folder which I created and named WSM Toporama. I can remove each source layer but can not seem to delete the new folder which I first created and every time i want to add a new WSM date source it defaults to a subfolder under the new folder. In an effort to get rid of the folders i tried the Delete Cache WMS files, which did not get rid of the folders. What is the purpose of the "delete Cache Files Comand. Did I remove something when i hit this command button.
How can I get rid of these newly created folders which continue to appear only when I try to add a new source.
Thanks
Where exactly is the folder that you are referring to that you can't get rid of? The layer list when you add a source comes from the server, there isn't anything you can do to change it.
The Delete Cached WMS files will delete any data tiles that you have downloaded from WMS sources. So if you access them again the tiles will be re-downloaded rather than a cached version from the hard drive used. This is useful for data sources that update. It does not affect your source list at all.
You can't remove a folder when looking at the list of data sources from a WMS server as that is a list of the folders on the server itself and not something Global Mapper can edit. You can only remove a source that you have added to the main source list in Global Mapper.
