Global Mapper Grid GMG file format

Hi - I am wondering about the Global Mapper Grid format's compatibility with other GIS software packages. Do you know which software packages can read in the GMG format or is Global Mapper the only one? If Global Mapper is the only software, what is the best alternative Global Mapper exportable file format for elevation data which provides both compression and compatibility with a number of software packages?

There really aren't any other applications that support the Global Mapper Grid format, other than ones that might be based on the Global Mapper SDK. I would probably suggest the GeoTIFF elevation format for the widest application support and decent compression.
