The old expression "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" implies that we think we would be happier in a different set of circumstances and that the realities on that other side of the fence are seldom evident of much difference in our happiness. Such was the case for me over the past couple of weeks as I looked hard at QGIS. As for why bother looking, read Is It Here We Dare To Opine? Perhaps the old proverb should instead be an admonition:

Finding/making palettes and shaders can be a chore. Here is a source for 165 of them designed specifically for cartography, and a fairly easy method to get them turned into ".pal" files for use in GM.

One of the great things about running Global Mapper Forum.com is seeing the happy and dedicated following that Global Mapper receives. I have enjoyed witnessing the interaction between the support team and customers. In fact, some might say that this ability to listen and respond to customers is one of Global Mapper's best features.
There has also been some concern expressed about how Global Mapper's acquisition will affect future support and product direction .
