    Hi
I try several values (1, 5, 10, 100, 1000, 10000, ... in decimal) to check that way forward but no change at all for the jpg files included in the kmz file, no change for file size neither image resolution. Does the right name of the key is "JpegInKmlQuality" without any space or _ ?
Can you please explain the use of that key (value effect on the final img files) and the range of allowed values

The value is a quality percent value. You'll typically want something between 25 and 100. The default is 75. Values outside that range would be ignored which is likely why you aren't seeing a difference.

Note that soon (maybe today even) I will have a new special menu item for export to a Garmin KMZ which will have a quality slider, so this will soon be a moot point.

    Thanks,

I have completed adding a new item to the GPS menu to directly export loaded data as a raster to a connected Garmin device. This should automatically do the KMZ export with appropriate gridding and formatting for display on a compatible Garmin device.

I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v11 version there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Did some quick testing with the new feature (32bit version so far) - it seems to be ignoring the Export Bounds selection. I select "Draw a Box...", make the selection and hit OK. The selection/values are updated in the Export Bounds panel but it seems to be always working on all loaded data.

Let me know if you need any more information.

    David

    Mike,

Just to clarify, is this feature available in the trial download or not?

I have updated the export bounds to work properly.

For Scott, this isn't in the main trial install. You would need to install that, then download the file using the instructions above and update your install with the latest build. This feature will be included officially when v11.01 is released in a few weeks.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I have done a little testing with the latest update and it looks good.

    Feature request:
I think in general the 512x512 grid this export uses will be good - the redraw speed on the unit corresponds directly with image size. But since there is currently a limit of 100 total images I could see the desire to use 1024x1024 grids to get the maximum coverage. (Images larger that 1024x1024 are allowed but the unit will lower the resolution)

    Garmin info found here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=2646

    Thanks,

Thanks for the Garmin forum link with the technical limitations. I have updated the exporter from Global Mapper to automatically increase the tile size when you would generate more than 100 tiles with the default setting. For very large exports this may go over 1024x1024, so in those cases the JPGs would be reduced by the current Garmin units.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I'm not sure this applies to globalmapper but Garmin has indicated that for best performance the individual jpg images should not be compressed when they are added to the kml file -- simple add them to the archive with no compression since they are already compressed.

I have updated the KMZ exports from Global Mapper to not compress JPG or PNG files added to the KMZ file. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip with the change for you to try.
