Selecting data in multicolumn table for treating as elevation data

Greetings Mike,

I followed your instructions and was able to merge a Tiger County shape file and a data (CSV) file using a common value of County. Now what I want to do is to be able to get GM to treat the data in a column in the joined table as elevation data so I can show data colored by value. However, the column is column 17 or some such number depending on what I want to show.

Can I do this?

    Alan,

You can set what attribute is elevation on the Options dialog for the layer.

    Thanks,

    Mike,
I did that but the 26 counties that contain numerical data in the selected field don't do anything. How do I make them become colored as though they were an altitude?

Ah sorry I thought you wanted to grid it or something. To just color by an attribute go to the Area Styles tab of the Options dialog for the layer and setup attribute-based styling and then assign styles to the different values.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike
