Overlay gridded data on terrain surface

Hi,

I have radar data that I have in a pixelized UTM grid format. The data includes X, Y, and Z, where X is the UTM Easting, Y is the UTM Northing, and Z is some variable...i.e. wind speed. I would like to overlay this data onto a terrain surface as a shader, where the the color of the shading is related to the value of the variable. I would then image this with the 3D-View and be able to see where terrain effects the variable.

Any ideas how I can do this?

Thanks,
IslePilot

    IslePilot,

You can grid your XYZ data on load using the File->Open Generic ASCII Data File menu command, then go the Options dialog for the layer and set it to use a custom shader. To drape that on some other terrain surface you would first need to export the rendered view to some non-elevation format, maybe a GeoTIFF 24-bit or 8-bit color, then load that back in on top of the terrain surface and press the 3D button to show both in 3D.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike
