Do I have to change State Plane Scale Factor?

hi there:

I have some LIDAR ASCII data which are using feet as planar and vertical units. When I convert units from feet to meters, do I have to change State Plane Scale Factor from 1.0000 to 0.3048? The State Plane Scale Factor option is on the Projection Tab of Configuration, Global Mapper. In the same option, what do I need to do for Extra False Easting, Extra False Northing....

Thank you for your help!

Doug

    Doug,

No you almost never change those, those are only for special custom projections. Just changing the units on the Projection tab of the Configuration dialog will handle the horizontal unit conversion. The vertical units are completely independent. If you export to a new LAS file you can select the units to use at that point and make the export be done with meters as the elevation units.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike
