Shapes and elevations

First off I very rarely use GM and I dont realy come from a mapping background.

I am doing some visualisation work for a client who has given me a 25cm dxf with xyz data. The program that I use for terrain visualisation needs the height data in a xyz text format.

I have magaged to import the dxf, create a 3D elevation grid and export the xyz no problem, but i would like to add some shapes to my file. These shapes will later be used in my visualisation program to add hi-res textures (fields, roads etc)

If i draw a shape over my imported dxf (I have a ortho to guide me) is there a way to drape it so that the coordinates of the shape are given a z value that follows the height of me created elevation grid.

Hope i am making sense

J

If I understand correctly you can do the following:
    1. Load your 3D elevation grid
    2. Create your shapes
    3. Export to Vector - Simple ASCII Text remember to check the box "Export Elevations for Each Vertex"
    4. Load the ASCII-file into GlobalMapper again
    5. Select a point of the point/line/area - right click - set position of selected vertices and then you see the "Vertex Elevation" is correct
